LBG Team Members Share Insight at Toxicology Roundtable

Robert Casillas, Ph.D., Managing Director, Discovery, Nonclinical, and Animal Health Consulting, has been invited to attend and speak at the 73rd Annual Toxicology Roundtable in Ruidoso, New Mexico, on October 9 – 12.

This year marks the first time that an LBG team member has been selected to attend the invitation-only event, which is organized by Experimental Pathology Laboratories (EPL®) and Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI). In addition, Dr. Casillas, who is considered a SME in the field, was offered the opportunity to choose one other team member to attend and speak at the event. He selected Kyle Kappler, Ph.D., Senior Consultant.

“As senior toxicologists, Kyle and I provide toxicology consulting services to a wide client base and routinely encounter issues within the industry, ranging from regulatory to specific procedures,” says Dr. Casillas. “It is a privilege to be recognized as senior toxicologists who can address challenges faced by the industry and mentor junior toxicologists who are growing in their toxicology careers.”

Dr. Casillas is a business strategic professional and biochemical toxicologist with more than 28 years of nonclinical development experience identifying workable solutions for novel products in the Medical Countermeasures (MCM) and Companion Animal Health markets. His expertise includes 20 years managing CRO chem/bio containment and preclinical facilities. He provides a proven customer focus and value creation for global clients with demonstrated success in establishing strategic partnerships and cross-functional teams to develop new revenue streams and drive growth.

Dr. Kappeler has more than 10 years of subject matter expertise in preclinical toxicology and safety support for IND/NDA, Global Registration, Food Safety Assessment, Companion Animal, and Animal Rule submissions in accordance with FDA, OECD, U.S. EPA, ICH and/or EFSA guidelines. He possesses an expert understanding of non-GLP and GLP-compliant (21 CRF Part 58) preclinical program design and costing, protocol development, program management, study monitoring/execution, report generation, and SEND management.

The Toxicology Roundtable is a three-day event targeting members of the organizations in the toxicology community to provide mentoring to the next generation of toxicologists. Topics range from regulatory to specific procedures associated with issues within the toxicology industry. In addition, the event offers opportunities to network with CROs and others in the nonclinical/toxicology space.

Comprised of a maximum of 50 attendees, the event unites senior and junior toxicologists from various companies to discuss toxicology issues and work together to strategize paths forward as well as facilitate mentoring opportunities between senior and junior toxicologists. Invitees include speakers, who are regarded as SMEs in the field, and mentees.
