LBG Team Member Speaks on Antimicrobial Resistance in Cattle

Keith DeDonder, DVM, Ph.D., DACVCP, Senior Consultant, Discovery, Nonclinical, and Animal Health Consulting, has been asked to speak at World Buiatrics Congress (WBC) September 4 – 8 in Madrid.

Dr. DeDonder will address two topics on antimicrobial resistance in cattle: (1) antimicrobial susceptibility testing and clinical applications in cattle and (2) defining antimicrobial efficacy: an investigation of treatment versus negative controls in bovine respiratory disease.

“The risk for the further development of bacterial resistance when antimicrobials are used is well known, and the interconnection of use of animal and human antimicrobials further increases the concern for human and animal health,” says Dr. DeDonder. “Research and development efforts for alternatives to antimicrobial therapies are increasing, but none are currently available. Veterinarians must deal with the increasing requirement of antimicrobial use reduction, the lack of valid alternatives, and a more prudent and updated use of antimicrobials in the therapy.”

Dr. DeDonder has more than 10 years of experience as a senior professional in veterinary and nonclinical pharmaceutical development and clinical veterinary medicine. He possesses advanced subject matter expertise in the areas of food and companion animal medicine, antimicrobial resistance, and clinical pharmacology.

In addition to his speaking engagement, Dr. DeDonder will also have the opportunity to network with researchers and executives in the Animal Health space.

An international gathering of approximately 2,000 delegates, WBC offers a forum for veterinary practitioners working with dairy and beef cattle and other ruminants, scientists from universities and research institutes, consultants for production medicine, professionals from related companies and associations, and students from veterinary or animal science schools.
